About West Marine Survey
The surveyor
behind the work.
West Marine Survey is founded and run by Vincent Gobron — a qualified marine officer who spent years at sea before joining the maritime claims industry in 2009. Every survey, every report, every finding carries his direct commitment.

Why it matters
One surveyor.
Full accountability.
At Sea Before the Desk
Vincent spent several years at sea — cruise ships, bulk carriers, VLCCs, tankers, cable-laying vessels — before becoming a surveyor. He assesses vessels from the inside, not just the paperwork.
Truly Independent
We are appointed by the party who instructs us and act solely in their interest. No hidden relationships with shipyards, P&I Clubs, or insurers — just clear, impartial findings.
Claims Experience Since 2009
Over 15 years of sustained involvement in maritime casualties on behalf of shipowners, P&I Clubs, and underwriters — across all claim types, vessel categories, and jurisdictions.
Background
Vincent Gobron
At Sea
A career that started on the water.
After graduating from the French Merchant Marine Academy with an unlimited deck and engine officer certificate, Vincent spent several years at sea. He served aboard luxury cruise ships, bulk carriers, VLCCs, product tankers, seismic survey vessels, and cable-laying ships — gaining direct experience across a wide range of vessel types and trade routes.
That background matters. A surveyor who has stood watch, handled cargo, and worked in engine rooms brings something to damage assessment and expert reporting that cannot be learned at a desk.
Since 2009
Joining the maritime claims industry.
In 2009, Vincent joined Northern Shipping & Logistics — a subsidiary of SCUA Belgium — as a marine surveyor. Since then, he has been involved in the handling of numerous maritime casualties on behalf of shipowners, P&I Clubs, and marine underwriters, building progressive expertise in claims management, damage assessment, and liaison with competent authorities.
Over the years, he developed a thorough practical knowledge of the maritime claims sector — working independently under time pressure, producing clear technical findings, and maintaining the rigour that insurers and lawyers require.
